In a concerted effort to address pressing social issues, the RiBhoi Area Welfare Association (RAWA) organized an impactful awareness program on HIV/AIDS, Drugs Abuse, and the POCSO Act on February 23, 2024, at Tdohumsiang Village. The event, held in collaboration with the Tdohumsiang Sport Club, Meghalaya AIDS Control Society, and the District Child Protection Unit RiBhoi District, garnered significant participation from the local community. The program chaired by the esteemed Headman Shri Eveningstar Nongbet, the event commenced with an introductory address by Smt. Balakyntiew Umbah, President of RAWA, setting the tone for the informative sessions ahead. Shri Jamshaphrang Pohtam, the Cluster Manager of the District Integrated Strategy for HIV/AIDS MACS, delivered a comprehensive speech on HIV/AIDS, highlighting preventive measures and dispelling misconceptions surrounding the disease.
The audience was deeply moved by a heartfelt testimony from Shri Burom Warjri, shedding light on the devastating impact of drug abuse on individuals and communities, emphasizing the urgent need for intervention and support networks.
Smt. Ibabudsuk Wahlang, an Outreach Worker from DPMU, eloquently elucidated on the provisions of the POCSO Act, aimed at safeguarding children from sexual offenses.
Smt.Lamjingshai Lyngdoh, counselor DPMU , shared her valuable insights and professional experiences, offering a nuanced understanding of the complexities involved in POCSO Act convictions. Her narrative served to underscore the importance of community vigilance and support for victims. The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries Shri Joplin Sten as the Chief Guest and Gershom Dkhar as the Guest of Honor, underscoring the significance of the occasion.
In addition to the enlightening discussions, a practical initiative was undertaken with the linking of Aadhar with MHIS, facilitating seamless access to healthcare services for attendees. Shri Boby Wahlang, Secretary of the Tdohumsiang Sport Club, extended a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants and collaborators for their unwavering support and commitment to the cause.
