National Sample Survey Office (Field Operations Division), Regional Office, Shillong observed the International Women’s Day 2024 today at the Office’s Conference Hall. The programme was graced by Smt. M Nongrum, Deputy Director, Smt. A. Lyngwa, Asst. Director and other officials of the department.
The programme started with an introductory address by Smt. A. Lyngwa, Assistant Director on the theme of the IWD 2024 'Investing in women: Accelerate progress’. She also shared about the significance of this day for acknowledging and celebrating the achievement of women in every sphere of life.. In her keynote address, Smt .M. Nongrum, Deputy Director, gave a brief historical background of the origin of IWD and mentioned International Women’s Day was the product of the Universal Female Suffrage movement which originated in Great Britain and the United States. Speaking on the theme, she opined that if proper investment of time, money and resources are done in every female child, progress in societies will invariably follow. She also expressed her gratitude for being born into a matrilineal society where women are given their rightful significance in the society and family. She also commended the various government initiatives to uplift and empower women.
A special item called ‘Spotlight on amazing stories’ and quiz competition were conducted to highlight about the great women personalities in various fields.The programme ended with a vote of thanks from Smt. Angelyn Ramneichieng, Senior Statistical Officer, NSSO(FOD), RO, Shillong.
