In two joint operations, the vigilant troops of the 200 Bn BSF in Meghalaya, along with the Meghalaya police, successfully seized a large quantity of sugar intended for smuggling into Bangladesh near the border area in the South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya in last 48 hours.

Based on specific information, BSF troops along with Meghalaya police planned a special operation and laid a Mobile Check Post (MCP) near Baghmara. They intercepted a suspicious Bolero pickup but upon noticing the checkpoint, the driver and co-driver fled from the spot. Subsequently, the joint party conducted a thorough search of the pickup and recovered 25 bags of sugar concealed under sand. The seized sugar and vehicle were handed over to the Baghmara Police Station for further legal action.

In another successful operation, the joint party recovered 364 bags of sugar stockpiled in an abandoned house located near the international border. The seized sugar bags were intended for smuggling into Bangladesh through the international border of the South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya.
