NSSO, Shillong has organized various programmes & activities as part of the “Swachhata Pakhwada 2024”. Swachh Bharat Mission is a flagship programme of the Government of India, initiated by the Prime Minister to fulfil the dream of Mahatma Gandhi to make a clean and hygienic India. It is a country-wide campaign which was launched in 2004 by the Prime Minister of India to eliminate open defecation and improve solid waste management.
Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has been conducting the Swachhata Pakhwada on a regular basis. The main focus areas of the Campaign include undertaking cleanliness activities and ensuring intensive sanitation in the entire ecosystem. As part of the Swachhata Bharat Mission, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation celebrated Swachhata Pakhwada 2024 from 16th to 30th June 2024. During the fortnight, NSSO (FOD) Regional Office Shillong has given special emphasis to achieving cleanliness thereby improving the workplace experience in office. Several programmes were being observed viz. tree plantation in Golf course along with a cleaning drive in its surrounding, donation of wet & dry garbage bins to Rajasthan Vishram Bhawan, Garikhana and cleaning drive at Police Bazar, Shillong and nearby areas. The 14-day-long campaign was a success and there was active participation from all Officers and staff of the office of NSSO (FOD) RO Shillong with a motto to keep the office surrounding and Shillong area clean and plastic-free.
