The Business Advisory Committee of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly met today at the Office Chamber of Hon’ble Speaker Shri Thomas A. Sangma at Khyndailad, Police Bazar, Shillong, to finalize the calendar for the Budget Session 2025.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Prestone Tynsong, Leader of the Opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma, Legislators Shri Charles Pyngrope and Shri Lakhmen Rymbui, along with senior government officials.
The Hon’ble Speaker informed that the 10-day Budget Session will commence on February 28, 2025 and conclude on March 13, 2025.
“We will have ten full working days—three days for Private Members’ Business and seven days for Government Business,” he stated.
He further assured that there should be enough time for everyone to participate, and in case of a shortage, the session could be extended, even on Friday, if required.
NEW ASSEMBLY BUILDING CONSTRUCTION
The Hon’ble Speaker also provided an update on the construction of the new Assembly building in Mawdiangdiang, stating that over 90 percent of the physical work has been completed.
Addressing concerns about the delay in completion, the Hon’ble Speaker emphasized that his primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of the building is not compromised. He further assured that the 2025 Autumn Session will definitely be held in the new building.
