“Sustainable Promises: Harmonising Horizon” by Dr. Naresh Tyagi was officially launched at the Asian Confluence Centre in Shillong. The event brought together a diverse audience, including students, professors, entrepreneurs, institutional heads, and environmental thought leaders, underscoring the book’s broad relevance across multiple sectors. The program commenced with a welcome address by Shri. Sabyasachi Dutta, Executive Director of Asian Confluence, a premier think tank, Mr. Dutta spoke about the role of the youth and communities in protecting and promoting the diverse ecosystem. Followed by an address from the author, Dr. Naresh Tyagi, who provided insightful remarks on the inspiration behind the book, emphasizing the urgent need for sustainable development practices and to realise the traditional practises. The highlight of the evening was the unveiling of the book by Shri. Ranjit Singh Gill, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), Government of Meghalaya, along with other distinguished dignitaries. In his keynote address, Shri. Ranjit Singh Gill emphasized the significance of sustainability in policy-making and industry practices, and the need for work as a valuable contribution to the discourse on environmental stewardship. The book discusses how sustainability is deeply rooted in India’s cultural and historical ethos. Drawing from ancient texts like the Rig Veda and the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world as one family), he illustrates how ecological balance and resource conservation have been integral to India’s way of life. The book delves into India’s sustainability journey across seven chapters, exploring ancient practices, medieval resilience, and the impacts of colonization and industrialization on environmental policies. Dr. Tyagi also highlights traditional concepts such as Vastu Shastra as early forms of sustainable architecture, offering a rich narrative that bridges historical insights with contemporary challenges. The launch concluded with a networking tea session, where attendees engaged in discussions on the practical implications of the book’s themes.
