An educational field trip to the Guwahati Zoo, organized for underprivileged children, concluded today, 27th March 2025 with a thorough follow-up on the learnings and outcomes of the event. The trip, which took place on 8th February 2025, was a milestone event, marking the first of its kind for 250 children from remote villages in Meghalaya and local slums. For many, it was the first opportunity to step outside their villages and explore the world beyond.
The programme was made possible through the support of the Honorable Chief Minister of Meghalaya under the Chief Minister’s Special Grant, with the official flag-off for the trip conducted by Dr. Maxwell Lyndoh, Counselor and Career Expert for Children.
The trip proved to be a highly impactful and inspiring experience, opening new doors to learning for these children. For most, it was their first time traveling by bus, and the concept of a “city” was a fascinating revelation. Many children who had never before stepped outside their immediate surroundings became motivators within their communities, encouraging their peers to focus on their studies with the hope of participating in future educational opportunities like this.
Upon returning, the enthusiasm of these young learners was evident, with many of them demonstrating a newfound commitment to their studies and personal growth. Their exposure to new experiences ignited a desire to achieve greater things in life and help other children in similar situations to have opportunities like they did.
The programme has instilled a sense of determination and hope in these children. It has encouraged them to not only focus on their education but also aspire to be the change-makers in their own communities.
This initiative has had a profound impact, and it is strongly recommended that more such trips be organized for children from underprivileged backgrounds—especially those who are forced to work from a tender age to support their families. These children often miss out on the joys of childhood, making educational excursions like this even more valuable.
We are deeply grateful to all those who supported this initiative and contributed to brightening the lives of these children through such an enlightening and transformative programme.
