The Border Security Force Meghalaya Frontier has achieved notable success in its relentless efforts to secure the Indo-Bangladesh border enhancing border security and combating cross border crimes.

During the first quarter of this year, BSF troops apprehended several individuals involved in illegal cross-border activities, including 78 Bangladeshi nationals and 37 Indian nationals, for their involvement in smuggling and infiltration attempts. Thereby combating Infiltration and Smuggling networks, in spite many constraints vigilant BSF personnel successfully foiled multiple infiltration attempts and apprehended 06 touts involved in facilitating cross-border movements which further helped police and law enforcement agencies to take action.

During the period, BSF Meghalaya conducted numerous anti-smuggling operations, resulting in the seizure of contraband items and 750 cattle worth approximately Rs 11.70 Crores. The seized items included Yaba tablets, Ganja, liquor, cosmetics, clothing, and other goods destined for illegal transport to Bangladesh.

Besides guarding the border, BSF Meghalaya remains committed to the welfare of border communities through timely medical evacuations, organizing 13 blood donation camps and 22 Civic Action Programs, conducting free health checkups in remote areas and distributing essential items to needy populations in nearby border villages.

To ensure effective border management, BSF Meghalaya continued its close coordination with the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) through field Commander-level meetings to resolve border-related issues, enhance mutual trust, and raise concerns regarding infiltration, smuggling routes, and the movement of criminal elements.

PRO BSF Meghalaya stated that many valuable links and inputs came to light during preliminary questioning of apprehended Bangladeshi nationals and touts. These inputs/links were subsequently shared with the state police and other law enforcement agencies with request for carrying out proper investigation and joint efforts to uncover the broader network facilitating illegal entry and operations across India. Details of touts and smugglers are being shared with police and other sister agencies on regular basis in order to effectively combat illegal infiltration and smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya. BSF Meghalaya is committed to border security, cooperation, and community development, continuing proactive efforts to curb smuggling and illegal activities along the Indo-Bangladesh border and ensure zero tolerance against infiltration.
