The State Level Inter School Athletic Meet, held over three days at the Sports Authority of India (SAI), NEHU, Shillong, culminated today with great enthusiasm and a strong sense of sportsmanship. Organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, in collaboration with the Meghalaya Athletics Association, the three-day sporting event, which commenced on May 19th to May 22nd,2025, showcased 48 track and field events. Over 780 athletes across 12 districts of Meghalaya competed in various age categories, alongside 36 officials. Additionally, 200 volunteers assisted with the different disciplines.Dignitaries present at the concluding ceremony were Shri Rakkam Sangma, Hon’ble Education Minister as the chief guest; Shri D. D Shira, MCS, Director, Sports & Youth Affairs department, Government of Meghalaya; Shri P B War Nongbri, Additional Director, Sports and Youth Affairs department, Government of Meghalaya; Shri K Passah, Assistant Director, Sports and Youth Affairs department, Government of Meghalaya; Shri W L Warjri, Principal, Shillong Polytechnic Institute, and other senior officials of the Sports Department; Police; School Authorities; Representatives of the Meghalaya Athletics Association; and students.Shri Rakkam A Sangma, the Hon’ble Education Minister, congratulated the organizers on the successful conduct of the Meet and the athletes on their achievements. He encouraged the winners to let their medals inspire them to dream big, develop sportsmanship, and continuously upskill themselves. He emphasized the meet’s significance in preparing athletes for the National Games 2027.Shri P B War Nongbri offered the vote of thanks and Shri K Passah, Assitant Director delivered the vote of thanks.East Khasi Hills was declared the overall champion title clinching 23 Gold, 11 Silver and 8 Bronze medals.East Khasi Hills was bestowed the Best Team in boys category with 10 Gold medals whereas in the girls category, the best team was also bagged by EKH with 13 gold medals. Meanwhile, the runner up position in Boys category was secured by East Jaintia Hills clinching 5 gold medals while in girls category North Garo Hills bagged 3 gold medals, respectively.Moreover, East Khasi Hills sweeps the Best Athlete title dominating four track and field events in Under 16 and Under 18 both boys categoryBest Athlete for the Boys & Girls Under 14 category goes to Rikangku D Sangma from South Garo Hills and Akangesa A Sangma from West Garo Hills respectively.In the Under 16 category, Saidul Ali from EKH was awarded Best Athlete for Boys and Rukini R T Dkhar for the Girls category.Under 18 Best Athlete was bagged by Henry Yoga Sangma from and Pringchi R Marak from EKHD for Boys & Girls respectively.
