A petrol tanker bearing registration number MZ01AA9286, which was en route from Guwahati, overturned and caught fire at around 11:00 PM on Monday night near 12th Mile on the Assam side of NH-27, directly opposite the NRL petrol pump.

Immediately after the truck overturned, flames erupted. Since it was carrying petrol, the fire spread rapidly and intensified, creating a terrifying scene. Numerous fire tenders from both Assam and Meghalaya had to be deployed to the site to control the blaze, which lasted for several hours.

The incident triggered panic among local residents and commuters. Traffic had to be halted temporarily on that stretch of the highway, resulting in a massive traffic jam that extended well into the morning.

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident, thanks to the driver’s quick response in jumping out of the vehicle in time. However, the tanker was completely damaged and left charred.
