Researchers from the Meghalaya Climate Change Centre (MCCC), Government of Meghalaya have conducted an assessment profiling a comprehensive climate vulnerability across the then 39 Community & Rural Development Blocks of Meghalaya. The assessment, “Integrated climate vulnerability assessment of Meghalaya at block level”, is published as a research article in Discover Sustainability , a journal published by the Europe based Springer Nature Group.

The assessment reveals vulnerability in 25 C&RD Blocks in the very high and high categories, contributed by limited access to credit, low household incomes, inadequate public health infrastructure such as Anganwadi centres, and low forest resource availability besides other factors.

The research article presents actionable analysis for policy makers, particularly those shaping climate resilience, rural development, and socio-economic equity in Meghalaya as this analysis reveals local vulnerabilities that district-level studies often miss, enabling precise, location-specific adaptation and mitigation interventions.

The MCCC, established under the National Mission for Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem (NMSHE), Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, functions under the Planning, IP&SD Department, Government of Meghalaya, and performs as a technical unit to the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority, which is the Secretariat to the Meghalaya State Council on Climate Change & Sustainable Development and is supervised by the Director General, Dr Joram Beda, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary (II), Planning, IP&SD Department, Government of Meghalaya.
