The Border Security Force Meghalaya Frontier celebrated India’s 79th Independence Day with grandeur and patriotic fervor at its Frontier Headquarters in Umpling, Shillong. The celebrations commenced with the ceremonial Flag Hoisting by Shri O. P. Upadhyay, Inspector General, BSF Meghalaya, in the presence of senior officers,So’s, and other ranks.
On this historic occasion, BSF troops deployed along the Indo–Bangladesh border also marked the day by hoisting the Tricolour at their respective Border Outposts. In a gesture symbolizing friendship and mutual respect, BSF troops exchanged sweets with their counterparts the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), reinforcing the spirit of camaraderie between the two forces.
The celebrations at the Frontier Headquarters were enriched by vibrant cultural performances presented by students of BSF Schools. Through songs, dances, and skits, the young performers showcased India’s glorious freedom struggle, cultural diversity, and unity in diversity, leaving the audience inspired and proud.
In his address Sh O. P. Upadhyay, IG extended warm greetings to the people of Meghalaya, BSF personnel, and their families. He urged students to imbibe the values of patriotism, discipline, and responsibility and to contribute towards building a stronger and more united India. The IG also lauded the dedication of BSF personnel who stand vigilant at the borders, safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty. The event concluded with a renewed pledge by all present to uphold the ideals of freedom and to serve the nation with unwavering dedication.
