The Mairang Police have launched an investigation into the disappearance of a 17-year-old girl from Permadan village, Eastern West Khasi Hills District.
According to police reports, the missing girl, identified as Miss Ribaiahun Marngar, went missing on the 15th of August, 2025, at around 10 a.m. from a shop where she was employed at Permadan village.
Authorities suspect that she may have been kidnapped by Shri Thomborlang Sohphoh of Umdum village. Till date, both the victim and the suspect remain untraced. A case has been registered under Mairang Police Station Case No. 81(8)2025 under Section 137(1)(b)(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, and investigation is currently underway.
Police have also released a description of the missing girl. She is 17 years old, with a fair complexion, standing at 5 feet tall, and has long black hair. At the time of her disappearance, she was last seen wearing a white blouse with black printed stars, a brown Khasi traditional ‘Jainkyrshah’ with white stripes, and a black pant.
The Superintendent of Police, Eastern West Khasi Hills, has appealed to the public for assistance. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the missing girl or the suspect is urged to contact the Mairang Police Station at 6009308959. Authorities have assured that the identity of informers will be kept strictly confidential.
