While the Ri-Bhoi police were conducting routine checking along the National Highway in Nongpoh, two unidentified individuals fled from their vehicle upon seeing the police, abandoning a Maruti S-Presso car bearing registration number AS 01 EG 7234 in the middle of the road, raising suspicion among the police.
The vehicle, which was reportedly heading towards Guwahati, was seized by the Ri-Bhoi police at around 12:40 AM. During the search, police found multiple packets of ganja concealed inside the vehicle while the two occupants took advantage of the darkness to escape.
Following the search, the police seized the vehicle along with the illegal contraband. During the formal procedures conducted today in the presence of witnesses, 28 packets of ganja weighing approximately 206.054 kilograms were recovered from the vehicle.
The police are continuing their investigation to trace the two individuals who fled and further action will be taken under the provisions of the NDPS Act.
