The Meghalaya Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Association (MeSCMA) is pleased to announce that our General Secretary, Mr. Wallambok Lyngdoh, has been elected as a member of the Governing Council (GC) of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) on 14th November 2025 during the 61st Annual General Body Meeting held at the IMF Campus, New Delhi.
The IMF is the apex body responsible for regulating and overseeing mountaineering and allied adventure sports activities in the country. It functions as the regulatory authority under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports for Sport Climbing at the National and International levels, including prestigious events such as the Asian Games and the Olympics. The IMF is also affiliated with the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC).
The Governing Council comprises selected active members who guide, formulate, and implement policies for the promotion and development of mountaineering and adventure sports—including Sport Climbing—across the nation.
The election for this coveted position was contested by 16 eminent mountaineers from the active panel of IMF members, out of which 11 members were elected through voting. The GC will serve a two-year term, alongside the newly elected President, Col. Vijay Singh, VSM (Retired).
MeSCMA stands to gain significantly from Mr. Lyngdoh’s representation at the IMF. His presence at the apex national body will help enhance the promotion of mountaineering and sport climbing at both the State and National levels. This development is also expected to strengthen the visibility and representation of the North East region in national adventure sports platforms in the future.
