Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday said that Mawkhanu Football Stadium will be an iconic structure.

“Meghalaya is a football loving state. This structure will be a great incentive and boost to sports, especially the football sector,” Sangma said after conducting an inspection of the ongoing construction of the Mawkhanu football stadium – which is going to be the largest football stadium in the country.

Also present during the visit was Minister, Sports & Youth Affairs, Wailadmiki Shylla.

The Chief Minister and the other dignitaries poured concrete in the North Stand of the stadium to mark the foundation laying while Fr Richard Majaw led the prayer to invoke divine blessings and favour over the new structure.
