VPP President Ardent Basaiawmoit today expressed disappointment with the state’s political situation, stating that the government is preoccupied with preparing for the 2028 elections at the expense of serving the people.
“The chief minister, who should be focusing on governance, is busy visiting constituencies to promote candidates for the upcoming elections,” he said.
Basaiawmoit claimed that the VPP has attempted to meet with the chief minister multiple times, but their efforts have been unsuccessful, with memorandums being handed over to officials instead.
“This reflects the government’s insecurity against the Voice of the People Party,” he alleged.
He accused the ruling party of spreading misinformation about the VPP, claiming it is a pro-Christian party. Basaiawmoit questioned the ruling party’s intentions, asking if they need the support of the Christian majority to win the elections.
“The VPP is promoting unity and asking people to put aside religious and community differences, but the ruling party is trying to divide the people,” he said.
