The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC), demanding the removal of its Secretary, Ashish M Sangma, and immediate implementation of reforms sought by the union.
The KSU has warned that agitation programmes will be launched from January 2026 if its demands are not fulfilled within the stipulated timeframe.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the union said its Employment Monitoring Cell held a meeting with the MPSC Chairman and commission members, during which it raised several concerns related to transparency and accountability in the recruitment process.
Among the key demands placed before the commission are the publication of examinees’ marks, release of answer keys, disclosure of assets of MPSC employees, and making public the annual performance report of the commission.
The KSU alleged serious discrepancies in the functioning of the MPSC, citing the recent typist examination, which was conducted in a descriptive format instead of the standard MCQ pattern.
The union further claimed that the MPSC has failed to fully implement recommendations made by a state government-appointed committee in July 2025, which was constituted to suggest reforms in the commission’s operations.
Opposing the commission’s actions, the KSU stated that several procedures adopted by the MPSC were in violation of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) guidelines.
The union has also demanded the cancellation of the typist examination, alleging unfair practices and deviation from established norms.
According to the statement, the MPSC Chairman has sought time till January 2026 to consider and implement the demands raised by the KSU.
The ultimatum comes in the backdrop of Ashish M Sangma’s transfer to another department following suspected corruption cases, the union added.
