National People’s Party (NPP) leader and Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Tuesday said it is “too early to comment” on the possibility of former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma joining the NPP, even as he expressed openness to the idea.
Reacting to media queries on Sangma’s potential entry into the ruling party, Dhar remarked, “I am the happiest man if he comes to us,” but stressed that speculation at this stage is premature, given that the next Assembly elections are more than two-and-a-half years away.
When asked about Mukul Sangma’s recent claim that he was asked to drop Sniawbhalang Dhar and Prestone Tynsong from the cabinet during the Congress regime, the Deputy Chief Minister refrained from commenting on past political developments.
“I respect Mukul Sangma. He is a tall and veteran leader. I don’t want to talk about the past,” Dhar said, underlining that their relationship remains cordial.
Emphasising mutual respect, Dhar added, “I am friends with him, and he is friends with me,” signalling a conciliatory tone amid ongoing political speculation.
