JAMSHEDPUR :
The Meghalaya Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Association (MeSCMA) has brought pride to the state as its Secretary, Mr. Wallambok Lyngdoh, along with Ms. Kayleigh Petra Nongkynrih, has been invited by the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) to officiate as judges at the Tata Steel Climbing Championship 2026.
The prestigious national-level championship is being held from January 24 to 27, 2026, at Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, and has attracted top climbers and officials from across India and abroad.
Tata Steel has long played a leading role in promoting sports excellence in India. Through the consistent and visionary efforts of the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation, sport climbing has seen remarkable growth in Jharkhand, emerging as a strong hub for the discipline. The foundation’s initiatives continue to strengthen India’s position on the national and international climbing map.
Sport climbing has also gained massive global recognition following its inclusion in the Olympic Games, debuting at Tokyo 2020, continuing through Paris 2024, and now heading toward Los Angeles 2028, further boosting youth participation and international interest.
The Tata Steel Climbing Championship 2026 commenced with a vibrant and high-energy atmosphere, backed by a strong technical team comprising experts from across the country. The event witnessed impressive performances by local climbers, national champions, and elite international athletes from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Nepal, all proudly representing their nations.
The participation of MeSCMA officials as judges at such a prestigious event highlights Meghalaya’s growing contribution to sport climbing in India and reflects the state’s rising recognition in adventure sports at the national level.
