NONGPOH : The Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), Northern Region, on Tuesday urged the Meghalaya government to complete the Trauma Centre at Nongpoh Civil Hospital and provide essential facilities, including an ICU and a separate ward for prisoners undergoing treatment at the government hospital.
The demand was made during a meeting with Dr D Blah, Medical Superintendent of Nongpoh Civil Hospital, following multiple complaints received from the public regarding serious shortcomings in healthcare services at the hospital.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Bah Donroy Kshiar, Education Secretary of HNYF Northern Region, in the presence of Bah Ronald Tangsang, Disciplinary Secretary, Ajay Rani, President of 20 Mer Circle, Vincent Sylliang, Secretary of 20 Mer Circle, and Precious Manar, President of Umling Unit, expressed concern over the inadequate medical infrastructure at the hospital.
He said the Trauma Centre remains incomplete, despite its critical importance for emergency cases, especially road accident victims. He further stressed the urgent need for an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and a dedicated ward for prisoners, stating that the absence of these facilities puts both patients and hospital staff at risk.
“The public depends heavily on this government hospital and expects quality healthcare services. However, several basic facilities are still missing, which is a matter of serious concern,” Kshiar said.
The HNYF called upon the state government and the Health Department to take immediate steps to address these gaps and ensure improved healthcare services for the people of Ri-Bhoi district.
