SHILLONG : The District Magistrate of East Jaintia Hills, Manish Kumar, has imposed an immediate ban on bull fights and all forms of animal fights within the district, citing violations of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and a 2014 Supreme Court judgment that prohibits bull fighting across the country.
According to the official order, the practice of organizing animal fights during fetes, fairs, and festivals has been repeatedly reported in the district, prompting strict administrative action.
The order clearly states that any individual or organization found violating the ban will face strict legal action as per existing laws.
“Any violation thereof shall be strictly dealt with as per legal provisions,” the District Magistrate warned.
Authorities have been directed to ensure strict enforcement of the order to prevent cruelty to animals and maintain law and order in the district.
