SHILLONG : Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit has said that the Voice of the People Party (VPP) is carefully examining the state government’s review report on the job reservation policy, recently tabled in the House, and is prepared to launch an agitation if the findings fail to meet public expectations.
Basaiawmoit stated that the party had earlier welcomed the government’s decision to review the reservation policy following VPP-led protests.
“We have already expressed our appreciation to the Government of Meghalaya for deciding to review the reservation policy after our agitation. Now, we need time to study whether the review reflects the wishes of the people or not,” he said.
He made it clear that the party’s next course of action will depend on the outcome of the review.
“If the review is acceptable, we are going to celebrate, and if it is not acceptable, we are going to agitate — simple,” he added.
The VPP chief’s statement signals that the party is prepared to take a firm stand once its assessment of the report is complete.
