The musical competition was organized by Don Bosco Media Network Television (DBMNTV) under the leadership of Fr. Michael Makri, Director. A total of eight young contestants made it to the final round, competing for the top prize of ₹1 lakh.
The event was attended by M. Ampareen Lyngdoh, MLA of East Shillong; Fr. Fidel Orendain, General Councillor from Rome; Fr. John Zosiama, Provincial of the Shillong Province; along with several priests from South Asia, religious leaders, and the families of the finalists.
Since its inception, Sur Kynud has focused on nurturing young musical talent. DBMNTV appointed professional coaches, including Miss Lapdiang and Miss Kheiñkor, to provide systematic training and guidance to participants throughout the competition.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh praised the organizers, stating that initiatives by the Salesians consistently uphold high standards in youth development. She also commended Don Bosco Youth Centre Shillong for creating a meaningful platform for young talents to showcase their abilities.
“It is through such competitions, whether in music or sports, that young people learn discipline, hard work, and the spirit to strive toward their goals,” she said.
In his address, Fr. Michael Makri attributed the program’s success to the support of superiors, donors — including the state government — and well-wishers. He also thanked parents for their unwavering encouragement and commitment to their children’s journey in the competition.
During the event, the Cecilia Memorial Award was presented to Br. Sniawshngain Papang, while the DBMNTV Youth Icon Award 2025 was conferred upon Herbert Kharkongor, Superintendent of Police, West Khasi Hills. Mementos were also distributed to the panel of judges.
