SHILLONG : The Centre has informed that Meghalaya has completed 23,624 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY–Urban & Gramin) out of more than 25,000 houses sanctioned so far.
Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Virendra Kumar made the statement on Monday after chairing a review meeting at Tara Ghar state guest house in Shillong.
He stated that PMAY remains a key pillar of social empowerment and highlighted that nationwide completions under the scheme have crossed four crore houses since 2014.
“PM Awas Yojana is a key pillar of social empowerment. No one should be deprived,” Kumar said, stressing the need for saturation of all entitlements to eligible beneficiaries.
He further noted that while housing targets are progressing well, LPG connections in Meghalaya are lagging behind and called upon officials to work toward 100 percent saturation.
The review meeting was attended by State Adviser (Social Welfare) Paul Lyngdoh, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah, and senior departmental officers. The meeting assessed the implementation of centrally sponsored programmes in the state.
Kumar described the development initiatives as a joint effort between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, referring to it as a “double-engine government” approach.
“In several departments, I have seen implementation is very good,” he observed.
On livelihood initiatives, the Union Minister referred to the Viksit Bharat–GBC Rozgar-Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) as part of the Centre’s rural development push. He stated that the objective is to translate eligibility into tangible improvements through strong Centre-state coordination.
The Centre has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all eligible households in Meghalaya receive the benefits of housing, LPG, and other welfare schemes without exclusion.
