The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly has decided that the Budget Session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will be held from February 16 to February 27, 2026.
The decision was taken during a BAC meeting held on Tuesday, which was chaired by the Hon’ble Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Shri Thomas A. Sangma. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Prestone Tynsong.
The Leader of the Opposition, Dr. Mukul Sangma, and Member Shri Paul Lyngdoh participated in the meeting through online mode.
Senior officials present at the meeting included Shri Cyril V. Darlong Diengdoh, Commissioner & Secretary, Parliamentary Affairs Department, Dr. Andrew Simons, Commissioner & Secretary, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, and Shri Malthus S. Sangma, Secretary, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
Informing about the session details, the Hon’ble Speaker stated that the ten-day session will include seven days of Government business and three days reserved for Private Members’ business. He further informed that the State Budget for 2026–27 will be presented on February 20, 2026.
The Speaker also noted that sitting hours may be extended, if required, to allow members to effectively participate in the proceedings of the House. Additionally, on the day when the Supplementary Demand for Grants is taken up, the sitting of the House will be extended till 3:00 PM.
