SHILLONG : Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has ordered the constitution of a Judicial Inquiry Commission to investigate the tragic illegal coal mine blast at Mynsngat–Thangsko area in East Jaintia Hills district, which claimed the lives of 27 mine workers.
Announcing the decision, Sangma said the government would institute the inquiry under the Commission of Inquiry Act to examine the circumstances leading to the incident and identify lapses, if any.
“The Government has decided to constitute a Judicial Inquiry Commission under the Commission of Inquiry Act to investigate the recent tragic mining incident,” the Chief Minister said in a social media post on Monday.
Meanwhile, police have arrested two mine owners, identified as Forme Chyrmang (36) and Shamehi War (42), in connection with the blast. Both have been remanded to three days of police custody.
Authorities said that verification of details, identification procedures, and search operations are ongoing, while investigation and legal proceedings continue in the case.
