Shillong : The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Shillong successfully concluded its annual festival Fashion Spectrum 2026 with a colourful closing ceremony that celebrated creativity, teamwork and student talent.
The two-day festival witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of NIFT and other reputed institutions, turning the campus into a vibrant hub of performances, competitions and artistic exchange.
Speaking at the event, Frederick Roy Kharkongor, Principal Secretary of the Textiles Department, Government of Meghalaya, praised the theme “ZAP!” and described it as a reflection of modern challenges and opportunities for creativity. He highlighted the importance of Ryndia Silk, Meghalaya’s eco-friendly GI-tagged textile, which is largely driven by women artisans.
He also proposed the idea of a “Best Designer Award of Meghalaya” to encourage designers to engage with local textiles and traditional craftsmanship.
Addressing the students, Satinder Kumar Bhalla, Secretary of the North Eastern Council (NEC), encouraged them to live fully in the present and make the most of opportunities. Referring to the theme “ZAP,” he described it as “Zile Abhi Ka Pal, Kal Ho Na Ho,” urging students to celebrate India’s cultural diversity and showcase indigenous traditions through creative expression.
The event was also attended by Brigadier Vikas Rai Shandilya, Commandant of the Assam Regimental Centre, along with Aimeka Dkhar, Assistant Director of Cottage Industries, and S. Kharpran, Functional Manager of District Commerce and Industries Centre Shillong.
The valedictory ceremony featured a reflection of the festival’s highlights followed by the announcement and felicitation of winners across various categories. The amphitheatre echoed with applause as participants were recognised for their creativity, discipline and sportsmanship.
The highlight of the evening was a captivating fashion show that served as the grand finale of the festival.
Campus Director Dr. Brijesh Deore said the event reflected the vibrant academic culture of NIFT Shillong and praised the dedication of students, faculty and organisers who made the festival a success.
As the celebrations concluded, the campus carried forward a renewed sense of creativity, collaboration and confidence that will continue to inspire the NIFT Shillong community.
