RI BHOI, MAR 20: Residents across parts of Ri Bhoi district are facing a severe shortage of cooking gas, with many expressing frustration and urging the government to intervene immediately.
One of the affected distributors, Wankhar Gas Agency, owned by P.M. Wankhar and S. Marbaniang, has reported major difficulties in supplying LPG cylinders due to a complete depletion of stock and irregular supply.
The agency, which serves a wide area from Umling to Umsen, has been unable to meet the growing demand of consumers. According to the management, the situation has worsened as fresh gas supplies have not been arriving on time.
At the agency’s office in Byrnihat, large numbers of people continue to visit daily in search of LPG cylinders. However, the agency has struggled to respond to the public due to the ongoing shortage.
Speaking on the issue, S. Marbaniang expressed serious concern over the situation, stating that many consumers have not received gas for several days despite relying on the agency for years. She added that the agency receives constant calls and visits from customers, especially families who depend entirely on LPG for cooking and cannot switch to alternatives like firewood.
Highlighting the urgency of the matter, she appealed to the government to take immediate steps to resolve the supply disruption and ensure that essential cooking gas reaches the public without further delay.
The ongoing shortage has raised concerns among residents, who fear that the situation may worsen if swift action is not taken.
