SHILLONG : The Hynniewtrep Commercial Vehicle Owners and Drivers Association on Tuesday lodged a complaint with the office of the Superintendent of Police regarding the recent assault of a taxi driver from Sohra.
As the Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem was unavailable, the complaint was submitted to a DSP. The incident involves a driver who was allegedly assaulted, physically attacked, and threatened by an individual in recent days.
In protest, various driver groups including tourist vehicle drivers, taxi drivers, pickup and truck associations, along with the Khasi Students’ Union, gathered near the statue of U Tirot Sing Syiem to strongly condemn the incident.
Speaking to the media, one of the leaders of the association, Balajied Jyrwa, said the organisation strongly condemns the act and has demanded the immediate arrest of the accused for violating the law.
He further stated that authorities must seize the firearm license of the accused for misuse. If the individual does not possess a valid license, strict legal action should be taken, as the act constitutes a serious offence.
