SHILLONG: Nongkseh SSCC delivered one of the most dominant performances in the history of the Meghalaya State League, thrashing Umkaber SCC 13-0 in a Group A encounter at the SSA Stadium on Tuesday.
The emphatic victory highlighted a day of complete dominance by Shillong-based clubs, all of whom secured comfortable wins to climb to the top of their respective groups. There were also important victories for Umlakro SC in Group F and A’chik SCO Rongjeng in Group G.
Nongkseh’s attacking display was led by Chesterpaul Lyngdoh and Shano Tariang, who both netted hat-tricks. Chesterpaul scored in the 5th, 45th and 56th minutes, while Shano found the net in the 12th, 38th and 52nd minutes. Khrawkupar Jana added two goals, including one from the penalty spot, while Kitboklang Pale and Sheen Sohktung also scored braces. Umkaber’s misery was compounded by an own goal from Banshanlang Kharsynniang.
The match effectively ended as a contest after Umkaber were reduced to 10 men, with Andriano P Mawlong receiving a straight red card for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity. Down to a man, Umkaber conceded heavily both before and after halftime.
In Group C, defending champions Mawlai SC continued their strong form with a 6-1 victory over Lamin XI SCC in Amlarem. Damanbhalang Chyne starred with a hat-trick, while Arkibor Makhroh, Basuklang Bina and Wadshwa Latoo added to the tally. Shanbor Sumer scored the lone goal for Lamin XI.
Nangkiew Irat SC registered a 3-0 win over Mawphu SC at the MFA Ground in Group B, with all goals coming in the first half through Dibinroy Nongspung and Banshanlang Nongdhar.
A similar 3-0 result was recorded in Williamnagar, where A’chik SCO Rongjeng defeated Attong Matgrik FC, with Perioush N Sangma and Klubarth M Sangma scoring in the second half.
In Group F, Umlakro SC edged Mishon SSCC 1-0 in Mairang, thanks to an early strike from Jewelstar R Marak. Meanwhile, Shillong Lajong FC, champions of 2019, defeated Lamyrsiang SCC 3-1 in Wahiajer, with goals from Hamedamanbha Wahlang, Lalmuansanga and Deibormame Tongper.
Rangdajied United FC, the 2023 champions, also secured a 3-1 win over Seng Samla Umdang Pyllun in Group H, with Pasborlang Khonglikong, Phibankhrawbok Nongkhlaw and Khainkupar Iawphniaw scoring for the Shillong side.
The only drawn match of the day saw Ladthadlaboh SC come from two goals down to hold Jalaphet Moochut Pyrdung SC to a 2-2 draw in Khliehriat. Goals from substitutes Andrew Nanghuloo and Evening Tariang ensured a share of the points after Jalaphet had taken a two-goal lead.
