Ri-Bhoi : Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU), 13th Mile, Tamulkuchi, Ri-Bhoi District, successfully organised a two-day free medical camp and voluntary blood donation drive, benefiting residents from several neighbouring villages while supporting emergency healthcare services through blood collection.
The programme was held on June 2 and 3, 2026, in collaboration with the Blood Centre of Nongpoh Civil Hospital and the Meghalaya State Blood Transfusion Council at the university campus.
During the free medical camp held on June 2, a large number of residents from surrounding villages, including men, women, youth and school children, availed themselves of the opportunity to undergo health check-ups and consultations with doctors from various medical specialities.
The initiative aimed to promote preventive healthcare and help people assess their overall health condition through professional medical examinations.
On June 3, the university organised a Voluntary Blood Donation Camp. Around 25 individuals, including both men and women, registered to donate blood. Out of them, 20 donors successfully donated blood, which was collected by the Blood Centre of Nongpoh Civil Hospital to support patients in need of emergency blood transfusions.
The programme was attended by Officer-in-Charge of Byrnihat Police Station, Rubul Ali, as the chief guest. Also present were Dr. P. Tariang, In-Charge of the Blood Centre at Nongpoh Civil Hospital, Dr. Sagar O. Manjare, Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University, faculty members, medical professionals, and students.
The university stated that the initiative reflects its commitment to community welfare, healthcare awareness, and encouraging voluntary blood donation among the public.
