SHILLONG : VPP North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum has extended his support to students protesting at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi over the alleged NEET examination paper leak, while demanding that those responsible be held accountable.
Nongrum joined a solidarity meeting organised by the Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) at Khyndailad in Shillong on Thursday, where he expressed his support for the students and their demands.
Speaking to reporters, the VPP MLA said he attended the gathering not only as a legislator but also as a concerned citizen worried about issues that could affect the future of the youth.
“I have come here not just as an MLA, but as a citizen who is concerned about what is happening, especially on an issue that affects the future of our youth. Because once we lose faith, where will we find hope?” he said.
Nongrum strongly condemned those allegedly involved in the NEET paper leak and called for strict action against the culprits.
“I have also come at this time to condemn and express strong disapproval, especially of those responsible for the leaking of NEET exam papers. I feel that the people involved in this act must be held responsible,” he stated.
The VPP leader also criticised the police handling of the protests, alleging that the action taken against protesting students was inappropriate and undemocratic.
“I condemn the atrocities by the police, because they cannot even handle the youth. This shows that they are not fit,” he said.
Nongrum further extended his support to the students’ demand for the resignation of the Union Education Minister, saying that their demand was justified and deserved to be heard.
“That is the truth that we must demand. We must move forward, and because of this I stand with them in this protest of theirs and in a demand that is just and right,” he said.
