SHILLONG : Meghalaya National People’s Party (NPP) state president and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Friday described former MP Dr W.R. Kharlukhi’s resignation from the party as a development that is not unusual in politics, although he admitted that he was disappointed by the decision.
Tynsong said political leaders leaving one party and joining another is a common occurrence and happens across political parties.
“This is not the first time. Senior leaders resigning from one party and joining another happens everywhere, almost every now and then. It is not an extraordinary incident,” he said.
However, Tynsong acknowledged that Kharlukhi’s departure was personally disappointing, given his role in the formation of the NPP.
He described Kharlukhi as one of the founding fathers of the NPP and said his resignation was disheartening.
“I feel bad because he was one of the founding fathers of the NPP. But I cannot do anything if he wants to resign. He said it was due to personal reasons,” Tynsong said.
Kharlukhi, a former Rajya Sabha MP, recently resigned from the NPP, citing personal reasons.
Tynsong said the party respects Kharlukhi’s decision, while maintaining that such political developments are part of the democratic process.
