SHILLONG: UDP MLA Olan Sing Suin has said the party is fully prepared for the upcoming Shillong Lok Sabha by-election, with the clear objective of securing victory.
Speaking about the party’s candidate VGK Kynta, Suin said the UDP has already started preparations for the bypoll and has lined up several programmes as part of its election campaign.
He said the party will enter the contest with the aim of winning, stressing that in an election, the objective of every candidate and political party is to finish first, rather than settle for second or third place.
On reports that nine UDP MLAs could join the BJP, Suin said he had no information about such a development.
However, he acknowledged that reports of this nature could intensify political activity and speculation in the state.
Suin said such reports would instead encourage the UDP to work harder and strengthen its preparations to ensure victory in the Shillong Lok Sabha bypoll.
The UDP has fielded VGK Kynta as its candidate for the by-election and has begun organisational preparations ahead of the contest.
