RI-BHOI : The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), North Khasi Hills District Unit, has expressed concern over the allocation and utilisation of space at the Facilitation Centre in Umling, claiming that the area allotted for government departments is considerably smaller than the space allocated for food outlets.
The KSU raised the issue after leaders of its North Khasi Hills District Unit, along with officials of the Ri-Bhoi district administration, visited the Facilitation Centre on Wednesday following a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi.
The organisation said the proper functioning of the Facilitation Centre could play an important role in tackling illegal activities, particularly the movement of drugs and other criminal activities in the area.
Speaking to the media after the inspection, KSU North Khasi Hills District Unit president Ferdinald Kharkamni said the organisation was not satisfied with the way space had been allocated at the Centre.
He pointed out that the space provided for government department offices, as well as the designated resting area, was very limited compared to the larger area allocated for food outlets.
The KSU said it will hold a meeting with leaders of its Central Executive Committee (CEC) to discuss the next course of action.
The organisation is also expected to consider taking up the matter with the Meghalaya Government, seeking additional space for government departments at the Facilitation Centre.
