RI-BHOI : A truck carrying cement products overturned in the middle of the highway at Umran Dairy in Ri-Bhoi district on Friday afternoon, temporarily disrupting vehicular movement along the road.
The accident occurred at around 3 pm when the truck bearing registration number AS 01 NC 8537 overturned across the road.
According to information available, the truck was travelling from the Guwahati area and was carrying cement bags of Taj Cement and Black Tiger Cement. It was reportedly headed towards Lumshnong to deliver the materials to a company there.
The accident reportedly occurred when the truck reached the Umran Dairy area and the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn in the middle of the highway.
A scooty and a car narrowly escaped being hit or trapped by the overturned truck during the incident.
Following the accident, the driver reportedly fled the spot and has not been traced so far.
Personnel from the Umsning Police Station reached the spot and initiated an investigation. The police also took steps to remove the overturned truck from the road to ease the traffic congestion caused by the accident.
No further details regarding injuries or the circumstances leading to the driver losing control of the truck were immediately available.
