SHILLONG, OCTOBER 16: Director of Tourism BL Pakyntein has stated that there was no secrecy surrounding the Shillong Ropeway Project, adding that withdrawing the project at this stage would be difficult as the process had already advanced.

Speaking to media persons on October 16, Pakyntein explained that before proceeding with the project, the Tourism Department had conducted a public hearing in September 2022. She said written communication had also been sent to the village headmen of the villages falling under the project area.

Pakyntein urged members of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) Against Shillong Ropeway Project to allow the project to proceed, stating that it could bring benefits to local residents and the city of Shillong.

She also appealed to the committee members to cooperate with the Tourism Department and work together towards the implementation of the project.

Her remarks come amid continued opposition from the JAC, which has been demanding the withdrawal of the proposed Shillong Ropeway Project.
