SHILLONG, OCT 26: Leaders of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) central body met Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma at the State Guest House on Monday to discuss five key demands of the organisation. The meeting was convened by the Chief Minister, just two days after KSU president Raymond Kharjana and general secretary Reuben Najiar were released from jail.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Kharjana said the discussion centred on five issues raised by the union, with the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) and matters concerning the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) among the key concerns.

Kharjana said the union had learnt that a meeting of the NEIGRIHMS governing body was scheduled for Tuesday. He expressed hope that a decision on the issue could also be taken during the meeting.

Regarding the matter, Kharjana said the Chief Minister had assured the union that he would arrange a meeting between KSU leaders and the Union Health Minister to present their concerns to the Union Government.

Meanwhile, KSU general secretary Reuben Najiar said recruitment was another of the five issues discussed during the meeting. He said the union had raised concerns over government recruitment and stressed the need to ensure transparency and fairness in the appointment process.
