NONGPOH, OCT 27: Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Dr Abhishek Saini has called a meeting with the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) following the organisation’s recent complaint over frequent power disruptions in Nongpoh and neighbouring areas.
Officials from the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL), representing the Umiam, Nongpoh and Byrnihat divisions, were also called to the meeting to discuss the recurring electricity problems faced by residents.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, KSU North Khasi Hills District president Ferdinald Kharkamni and Baishanlang Kharshanlor said the union had been raising the issue for several years.
They said that after the KSU submitted its complaint and renewed its appeal over the frequent power cuts, the Deputy Commissioner called the union’s Nongpoh Circle for discussions on the matter.
According to the KSU representatives, the meeting highlighted strong winds along power transmission routes, particularly in the Umsning area, as one of the reasons behind the disruptions. Falling trees and bamboo obstructing power lines were also identified as contributing factors.
The union said the recurring outages had caused difficulties for residents in Nongpoh and surrounding villages, and stressed the need to address the problem.
