SHILLONG, OCT 29: Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Thursday said the law would take its own course against illegal coal transportation following an incident in which a coal-laden truck overturned in Shillong, causing massive traffic congestion.
Dhar said steps were already in place to deal with illegal activities and that those found violating the law would face action.
“Whatever is illegal, the law will take its own course. Steps are already in place, and whoever engages in illegal activities will face the law,” he said.
The Deputy Chief Minister’s statement comes after a coal-laden truck overturned at Jaiaw, disrupting traffic in the city and raising concerns over coal transportation.
Earlier on Tuesday, Agnes Kharshiing, president of the Civil Society Women’s Organisation (CSWO), filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Lumdiengjri Police Station in connection with the incident.
The matter has drawn attention to the issue of coal transportation in Shillong, particularly following the traffic disruption caused by the overturned truck.
Dhar reiterated that the law would take its course against those involved in illegal transportation.
