SHILLONG, OCTOBER 29: BJP legislator from Nongpoh, Mayralborn Syiem, on Thursday responded to Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Vincent H Pala’s remark that UDP MLAs who joined the BJP would meet the same fate as those who switched to the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Syiem expressed confidence that voters in his constituency would judge him based on his performance and the work he had done for the people ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections.
“All elections are challenging. Not only the upcoming 2028 election, but since my first election in 2018, which was very challenging, I won from Congress. The second election in 2023 was also very challenging, which I contested from UDP,” Syiem said.
He said voters would decide based on the work delivered and the responsibilities discharged by their elected representatives.
“Even now, people of our constituency will give mandate based on delivery, based on duty we have discharged towards people. I am not wrong to say people of my constituency and other constituencies also will vote for the right person who has worked for the benefit of the constituency at large,” he said.
Taking a swipe at Pala, the Nongpoh legislator said the Congress leader should focus on his own party before commenting on others.
“With due respect to MPCC president, it is better for him to see to his own flock, try to gather his own flock before pointing fingers at others,” Syiem said.
He added that he had no animosity towards the Congress or any other political party and maintained that his priority was to serve the people sincerely.
“I have nothing against Congress, nothing against any other political party, I respect all parties. I am a small soldier in big ocean of politics to fight election but we will try our level best to serve with sincerity and I hope people of my constituency will support in due course of time,” he added.
