Bijli Mahotsav or Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya – power @2047 was observed in Gokulgre MFC hall in Resubelpara, North Garo Hills on Friday to encourage public participation and to highlight the development in power sector.Sordars, Nokmas, members of SHGs and general public of the area benefitted from the programme.Addressing the gathering as the chief guest was Pongseng Marak, MLA Bajengdoba wherein he stated that the government has initiated various schemes and projects for the welfare of the people. Among these schemes, Electrification was one significant scheme as the majority of daily work production and human activities is entirely dependent on it. With the objective of Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya to provide electricity to all households of the region, the responsibility of the officials and workmen of power department goes to a greater extent, Marak said. “From braving various challenges to risking their own lives, the effort of power employees in ensuring the supply of electricity is not disrupted is highly commendable”, he addedMarak also apprised the gathering on various public welfare schemes being implemented by the Central and state government. He called upon the public to extend coordination for the effective implementation of the schemes.While calling for judicious use of electricity, Marak urged the gathering to pay the electricity bill in time and thus avoid unusual high electricity bill.Also present during the programme was Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jude Rangku T Sangma where in his speech he highlighted the objective of the programme and said Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya is the vision of the Prime Minister to electrified every household.”In the past electricity supply was short and people had to endured various hardships in day to day life. But with the advances of electricity, life has become much easier”, Sangma added.While stressing on the importance of electricity, he exhorted the gathering to be responsible citizens in proper utilisation of electricity and appealed them not to resort to power theft.Rezwanur Rehman, District Nodal apprised the gathering on the achievements of power sector and the unprecedented growth that the country has been able to achieve over the last few years.During the programme, benefits of smart meter were elaborated and films on universal household electrification, village electrification, strengthening of distribution system, capacity addition, one nation one grid, renewable energy and consumer rights were exhibited to the gathering.BPL beneficiaries of Electrification scheme also gave testimony about heir experience of the scheme.
