In a proactive step towards combating the menace of drug abuse, the RiBhoi Area Welfare Association organized an Anti-Drug Awareness event at Nongkya Village on May 3rd, 2024, at 6 pm. The initiative was generously sponsored by the office of the District Social Welfare Officer, RiBhoi District, Nongpoh, reflecting a collaborative effort to address this pressing issue.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from villagers, underscoring the community’s commitment to tackling drug abuse. Smt. Balakyntiew Umbah President RAWA delivered a compelling speech highlighting the detrimental effects of drug use. She emphasized the need for collective action, urging the durbar shnong, NGOs, schools, and colleges to unite in this endeavor. Additionally, she stressed the importance of organizing sports and recreational activities for children and youth as constructive alternatives to substance abuse.
Shri E. Marak, the Officer in Charge of Umsning Police Station, shed light on the legal aspects of the issue, emphasizing the role of law enforcement in maintaining order. He called upon the durbar shnong to vigilantly address the issue within their communities. Furthermore, he reiterated the importance of regular awareness campaigns and assured the public of the police department’s unwavering support and assistance.
