Amlarem, West Jaintia Hills – May 24, 2024 – The Community Institute of Technology(CIT), Amlarem in a significant initiative aimed at empowering the unemployed youth of West Jaintia Hills, a comprehensive Skill Training Program in Carpenter Wooden Furniture was launched today the 24-05-2024 at Amlarem. The skill training program is sponsored by the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS), Department of Labour, Employment and Skill Development under Skills Meghalaya Project with an aims to equip unemployed youth with the necessary skills to become employable in the carpentry trade and take significant step towards reducing unemployment and promoting self-sufficiency in the region.

The inauguration ceremony was held at CIT Amlarem Center and honored by the presence of distinguished Guests. Shri GLC Mylliem, Block Development Officer, Amlarem Block and who is also the Assistant Commissioner of Amlarem Sub-Division, who served as the Chief Guests for the event. His involvement underscores the government’s commitment to addressing unemployment and fostering skill development and creating job opportunities for the youth in the region.
The inaugural event was presided over by Shri L. Lanong, Secretary and Director of CIT, who chaired the ceremony. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of the Invitees and officials Shri Lambormi Suchen, Skill Development Officer of MSSDS, Shri Kolmen Pohshna, Advisor of Synjuk Waheh Shnong War Jaintia, Shri Kampher Pohlong, Headman of Amlarem Village and Secretary of Synjuk Waheh Shnong Ri Lum Jaintia, Local Headman and Representatives, trainees, trainers, and staff of CIT Amlarem.
Their presence and support were instrumental in the successful launch of the program.
Highlights the Inaugural address of the event , the Block Development Officer, Shri GLC Mylliem emphasized the importance of skill development in enhancing employment opportunities and boosting the local economy. He highlighted the potential of the carpentry trade in providing sustainable livelihoods. He expressed his support for the initiative and encouraged the trainees to take full advantage of the opportunity. He also delivered an inspiring speech that emphasized the transformative power of skill development in enhancing employment opportunities and boosting the local economy. The Chief Guest also underscored the vital role that skill development plays in today’s job market. “Skills are the foundation of employability. By acquiring and mastering new skills, you open doors to numerous employment opportunities,” he noted, stressing the potential of the carpentry trade in providing sustainable livelihoods.
The guest urged the trainees to remain patient and committed throughout the training program. “Do not stop halfway. Hard work and perseverance are key to success. The government is shifting its focus from being a job provider to being a job creator. You, as skilled individuals, have the potential to become job creators,” he emphasized.
In terms of Innovation and Market Expansion the guest highlighted the importance of thinking creatively and pushing the boundaries of traditional markets. “Take your skills to the next level. Improve and enhance your craft. Aim to have your products compete on a global scale through e-commerce platforms. Think out of the box and seize every opportunity to expand your market reach.”
An overview of the Objectives of this Skill Training Programme on Carpentry Launch today Is to enhance the employability to Provide unemployed youth with practical carpentry skills, thereby increasing their chances of securing jobs in the woodworking industry.
To promote Entrepreneurship by Encouraging trainees to become job creators by starting their own carpentry businesses.
And to support Local Economy by Developing a skilled workforce that contributes to the local economy and has the potential to compete globally.
The launch of the Carpentry Skill Training Program at CIT Amlarem marked a significant milestone in empowering the unemployed youth of West Jaintia Hills. The event, sponsored by the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS) under the Skills Meghalaya project, brought together key community leaders and officials to inspire and motivate the trainees and the CIT.
