The NSS Units of Iaikyntiew College, Nongthymmai, Shillong, and St. Xavier’s College, Umoid, Mawkyrwat proudly represented Meghalaya at the North East NSS Festival 2025, held from June 10 to 14 at Dzüü Resort, Kohima, Nagaland. A total of 30 NSS volunteers (15 from each college) along with two Programme Officers departed from Shillong on June 9 to participate in this five-day youth festival organized under the theme “Viksit Bharat”. The event was hosted by the NSS Cell, Government of Nagaland, and supported by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India. The festival brought together over 300 NSS volunteers and officers from all eight Northeastern states, featuring technical sessions, leadership workshops, cultural performances, competitions, and a cleanliness drive. One of the highlight of the event was the vibrant performance by the Meghalaya contingent. The NSS Units of Iaikyntiew College and St. Xavier’s Umoid graced the stage in traditional Khasi attire, performing folk songs and playing local instruments. Amidst loud cheers and the spirited ‘Hoi Kiw!’ echoing through the air, the team showcased the rich cultural heritage of Meghalaya with pride and enthusiasm. Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio, who inaugurated the event, praised the NSS for promoting youth engagement and cultural exchange, calling it a platform to strengthen unity across the Northeast. The participation of Meghalaya’s colleges was coordinated by the State NSS Cell, Directorate of Higher & Technical Education, Shillong.
