The District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills, Smt. R.M. Kurbah, IAS, has issued an urgent order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to prohibit the illegal collection of donations by various groups targeting commercial establishments in the district.

The order, which comes in response to media reports highlighting the unauthorized fundraising activities, declares such acts as criminal offences when conducted without permission from the competent authority. It warns that violators will face penalties under Section 308 and Section 223 of the BNS.

Highlighting the seriousness of the matter, the order has been passed ex-parte and is to take immediate effect, remaining in force until further notice.

The directive underscores the district administration’s commitment to curbing unlawful practices and maintaining law and order in the region.
