The District Medical & Health Officer office, East Khasi Hills launched the District Level Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2025 at Laitlyngkot PHC on the 18th July 2025 with an aim to reduce the under 5 years child mortality and to keep children safe and healthy. Shri. Gavin M Mylliem, Hon’ble MLA, Sohra Constituency was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Addressing the gathering, Shri. Gavin M Mylliem pointed out that 8% of the total Budget of Meghalaya has been allotted to the Heath Sector as it is one the priority of the Government. He reminded that the Health Department have conducted various Health Awareness from time to time. He urged everyone present at the programme to spread the message they have received to their families, friends and others to enable such programme to be a success and to improve the over health of the people of the area. He also made an appeal to the community leaders to call upon everyone to link their Aadhaar card with MHIS to avail the benefits of MHIS while being treated at Hospitals. He informed the gathering that the Laitlynkot PHC is receiving an Ambulance to improve access to emergency medical care. He expressed his appreciation to all the doctors, nurses, aganwadi, ANMs and all the health workers who despite many obstacles and challenges has worked tirelessly to improve the overall health of the people of Meghalaya. Speaking about the campaign, Dr. J. Nongrum, Paeditrician, Sohra CHC raised awareness about the causes, symptoms and treatment of Diarrhoea. She stressed on the importance of preventive measures, including proper handwashing techniques, personal hygiene practices, and the use of ORS and Zinc in combating diarrhoea. She also emphasized on the importance of proper breastfeeding and healthy eating habits, which can go a long way in protecting our children from diarrhoea and other illnesses. The District Medical & Health Officer Dr. A Kharduit emphasized on the importance of routine immunization and vaccination, which are crucial for the children and public health because they prevent diseases, disabilities, and deaths caused by vaccine-preventable diseases. She pointed out that routine health screenings are crucial for early disease detection and prevention. They involve various tests and examinations, to identify potential health issues like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and certain cancers before they become serious. The programme was concluded by the handing over of Ambulance by the Hon’ble MLA to Laitlyngkot PHC, which was followed by Blood Donation Camp.
