The group stage of the inaugural Meghalaya Women’s State League 2025 came to a conclusion today with Laitkor SC ending in first position in Group A after defeating Pay For Right Football Academy 2-1 at the SSA Stadium in Polo here this morning.

Both teams are from the Shillong Sports Association and each had won all three of their previous matches. Laitkor, champions of the SSA’s 2024 Women’s League, were looking to extend their dominance over PFR, who were runners-up in the SSA league.

There was just one goal in the first half, scored by Inrila-i-dor Khongthaw (6′) but goal machine Iaraplang Nongrum (53′) doubled the lead for Laitkor early in the second half. PFR’s goal getter, Nisilia Majaw (64′), was able to pull one back minutes later but Laitkor held on to their one goal advantage until the final whistle.

Meanwhile, the penultimate game in the group took place on Saturday, with Attacker’s Youth Club of Ri-Bhoi District Sports Association defeating Lapalang SSCC of Riwar Mihngi Football Association 9-0. Pynibha Rangthaluh (14′, 19′, 29′, 70′, 79′, 81′) scored a double hat-trick, with B Pyngrope (31′) and Damika Rani (62′, 65′) also contributing. Attacker’s thus finished in fourth place, with Lapalang last in fifth.

Both Laitkor and PFR had already qualified for the quarterfinals before today, with this match simply to decide who finished first and second in the group. The other team to qualify from the five-team Group A is third-placed Na Rympei FA (from Ri-Bhoi District Sports Association).

Group B is the largest group with six teams and here the top four will progress. They are Mawlum Tyrsad SC (Tyrsad Area SA) on 13 points, Jakrem SC (Mawkyrwat DSA) on 12, Bright Future SSCC (Pyndengumiong DSA) on 7 and Mawten SC (Mawkyrwat DSA) on 4.

With just two teams in Group C, only the winner – Diengshynrum SC (East Jaintia Hills District Football Association) on 6 points – will go through to the knockouts.

The Meghalaya Football Association will announce the dates and venue of the knockouts at a later date.
