SHILLONG : A delegation of the United Democratic Party (UDP), led by Cabinet Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Tuesday to raise concerns over the proposed amendments to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh said.
Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said the proposed changes to the FCRA and their possible impact on institutions and organisations operating in Meghalaya were among the key issues discussed during the meeting.
“The main issue raised with the Hon’ble Home Minister was FCRA,” Lyngdoh said.
Asked whether the delegation raised other matters concerning Meghalaya, the UDP president indicated that other pressing issues affecting the state may also have been highlighted during the meeting.
The meeting comes days after the UDP called on the Centre to review key provisions of the FCRA Amendment Act and Rules, 2026, expressing concern that the proposed changes could have implications for humanitarian, educational, healthcare and social service institutions in Meghalaya.
The party has maintained that any changes to the FCRA should take into account the role played by various institutions and organisations in providing essential services, particularly in states such as Meghalaya where such organisations contribute significantly to the social sector.
